What the ETS means to me.

The goal of any emissions trading scheme is to reduce carbon emissions, and in particular, the purpose of the ETS is to control pollution by providing economic incentives for achieving reductions in the emissions of pollutants into our atmosphere. Climate change is one of the most momentous issues facing Australian society, and more importantly, the Earth. The Energy and Equity pdf discusses climate change and says that "the impact of climate change on Australian society will be widespread. Across all parts of Australia, we can expect temperatures to increase, rainfall patterns to change, sea levels to rise and extreme weather events such as cyclones and bushfires to become more frequent and intense". Nearly all our society's vital systems will undoubtedly be affected by climate change. Agriculture, energy, water supply, settlements and emergency services, and more. Changes to these will inevitably impact the cost of energy and water, and thus severely affect our daily living and our overall health and wellbeing. So, climate change is the big bad guy, and frankly, any idea, plan or proposed solution to this problem we as humans are facing, I would gladly support.
Therefore, I believe that the AETS is a positive step forward for Australia's part in averting climate change.
